The need for CURE

The need for CURE

The flag program began because Chris Glavine and Stephanie Shearer recognized a need for a vibrant visual reminder during September—Childhood Cancer Awareness Month—to highlight the ongoing fight against childhood cancer and the need for continuous support.

Gold bow beginnings

Chris and Stephanie started by attaching gold bows to mailboxes in their neighborhood during September to raise awareness and show solidarity with children facing cancer. What began as a small neighborhood gesture spread across Georgia and beyond, with gold bows
becoming a year-round symbol of support.

Introducing the flag program

Introducing the flag program

Why the flag? As the movement grew, it became clear that something more durable and accessible was needed, and so the flag program was born. Bringing with them a new era of visibility. The flags quickly became a powerful symbol of community support and a way to raise awareness year-round.

The impact today

The impact today

The flags continue to serve as a prominent reminder that funding for childhood cancer treatment and research matters, and that the community cares. Every flag purchased directly supports families impacted by childhood cancer and funds lifesaving research.

See the difference your donation makes

This year alone, more than 17,000 children in the US will be diagnosed with cancer. These children are in urgent need of allies, as this is a battle no child should face alone. CURE Childhood Cancer is fighting the most aggressive and hard-to-treat types of cancers, and we are full of hope.
Last year, more than $205,000 was raised one flag at a time to support CURE’s research initiatives. This research will bring safer, more effective cures, along with a fighting chance, to those who need it most.
Now, it’s your turn to make an impact.
